Cravings
Hunger unbearable
begging just for one taste
unable to focus, a frenzied fog my mind cannot escape
My heart is pounding fast and hard I must have my desire
strangled in a wave of hopelessness the walls around me fire
My mouth so dry yet dripping wet my thirst is peaking fast
I must resist, I must restrain this once again will pass
Breaths shortened quick, deeper now
hunger tamed once more
I inhale deep, my lungs expand
battle won, yet still fighting the war

Six years ago in July I found the courage and strength to quit smoking after a long 23 year addiction to cigarettes. This poem a reflection of a craving . 🙂
